Upon leaving the parking lot he remembered the first time he had made the drive out there. It had been early, almost too early, and the sun had struggled with the night as he stepped out of the mist and onto the slippery rocks. The loud sea had drawn him in, and though he could only barely make out the wash of the white-water as it licked the rocks, he became infatuated with the ocean. The strong winds made it hard for him to stand up straight and he was close to losing his board to the wind a couple of times. There was no way he could make out the sea from the sky on the horizon, but still the only thing he wanted to do, was go out there. He remembered the initial shock of the cold water rushing around him and the humiliating power of the sea that forced him to cry out for pause. It had kept him coming for more. Once beyond the shore break he would turn his back to the colorless beach and the wind fighting trees, and he would whisper softly into the black depths while slowly stirring his hands in the sea. It was never an easy thing for him, to paddle out with the ease and posture that most of the other surfers that graced the beach were able to do. The head high...

If, for dietary or ethical reasons, you have decided that you want to put your infant on a vegetarian diet, you should be very careful in choosing formulas and solid food for your child. If you plan to breastfeed the infant and you are also a vegetarian, you may need to supplement breastmilk with additional sources of nutrition, depending on your dietary restrictions. If you are a vegan, or an ovo-vegetarian, you should add sources of vitamin B-12 to your child s diet. Other than the B-12 supplements, your infant should be able to receive all micro and macronutrients through breastfeeding, even if you are on a strictly vegan diet. If you plan to use formula rather than breastmilk, you should stick to commercial formulas, which contain the proper amounts and ratios of nutrients. If you opt for a homemade formula or soymilk over a commercial product, your child could experience developmental problems from a lack of proper nutrition. If you want to keep your infant on a vegan diet, you can select a soy commercial formula, as long as it is nutritionally-adequate. After about a year, you can begin to supplement formula or breastmilk with other sources of nutrition...

Fleas are tiny, biting pest that jump from one host to the other and can spread disease each time it bites. Fleas can carry tapeworm larvae and they can cause an allergic reaction in people and pets when they bite. Fleas can also cause other serious health conditions such as anemia in your pet and they can spread the plague in animals and humans. The plague, also called Black Death, during the Middle Ages killed approximately 30 million people in Europe. During the 19th century the plagued killed over 12 million people in China. In the 21st century, thanks to better living conditions, antibiotics, and improved sanitation, the World Health Organization statistics show there were 2,118 cases in 2003 worldwide. What is the plague. The plague is an infectious disease of animals and humans caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. People can get plague from being bitten by a flea that is carrying the plague bacterium, by handling an infected animal, or by exposure to humans or animals with plague pneumonia. If left untreated, bubonic plague bacteria can quickly multiply in the bloodstream, causing septicemic plague, or even progress to the lungs, causing pneumonic...

Copyright c 2006 Mary Desaulniers The whole question of dieting or not dieting is inseparable from us, women, because of our ambivalent relationship with our body--we love it and we hate it. In essence, mind has been exiled from body. I have known heavy women who face their unhealthy weight problem by eating more; I have seen women who are by all standards slender and beautiful agonize over the slightest thickening of midriff and thighs. For most women, our waists are never small enough, our bellies never flat enough and dieting seems to be the golden route to a kind of cultural icon of perfection. We worry excessively about every ounce we gain or we give in uncontrollably to eating binges. This hunger or denial of hunger is the reason for the dramatic increase in obesity in North America and also the reason for yet another weight loss book on the market. As Jennifer Workman states so emphatically in Stop Your Cravings , Why are we the most diet-crazed country in the world and yet also the most overweight, and apparently the most frustrated by our failure xiv . It is obvious that diets recommending food deprivation do not work. Weight issues involve more than...
